Facebook, Instagram, tumblr, bloggers, and any other form of social media is spammed with selfies every minute of every hour of every day. Why are people so intrigued with the selfie? As much as it is fun to snap a photo of your luscious hair day, flawless makeup and radiant lighting…why post it for everybody?
Even though I've started working…lately I've been on the evening shifts so I still have to occupy myself all day long! It's hard to do the same things everyday and I find myself easily getting into a funk. Everyday I try to get outside and get active so I feel like I am doing something. Even if it the littlest thing, it makes your day more fulfilling. Things that help me make each day a happy one are usually just the small things that everyone should appreciate a little bit more.
Had the best week with familiar faces from home! My cousin Vianna and her boyfriend came for a visit last Wednesday so I've been busy showing them around town. They were only here for a quick pitstop before heading up to Gold Coast but we definitely were able to share some laughs while they were here. Highlight of their visit was making our lamb roast dinner! Never been so proud.
Friday morning was spent sending them off and welcoming another friend from home. Jenn also came for a visit and we have been keeping busy adventuring all around town. Went up to Mt. Tomaree for a hike, toured a few beaches, danced Saturday night away, and hosted our first BBQ on the patio. Highlight - rode my first wave (laying down) but I was on a surfboard so it counts! So, I dropped by the arena the other day. Had to make it all the way out to Warners Bay...two busses and a 20 minute walk later, I got to the arena where they weren't even going to let me on the ice! Luckily, they changed their mind but I forgot what it's like to skate on real ice again! My blades need a little sharpening but all in all, wasn't too shabby! The coaches gave me a nice warm welcome and invited me back anytime. One of the coaches used to skate in ice capades with my old coach! He even knew the one Aussie I skated with on Disney on Ice. I guess it's a small industry here…however, it gets weirder! I was given a number to call the manager of the building if I was interested in working with the Learn to Skate program, I definitely was so I gave the guy a call. Turns out he is from Port Alberni on Vancouver Island in B.C….just a couple hours north of where I originally am from! Such a small world.
PS: I finally took the brown off my skates so they're back to pearly white! Tomorrow is already another Monday, weekends go by way too fast. So many events to report!
Friday - was spent getting up at 5:30am to head into Singleton where the bf works and where his parentals live. Spent the whole day with his mom…good ole one-on-one time. Usually I'm beyond awkward with this kind of thing but surprisingly, the day passed pretty quick. I was able to make out more than one word at a time and form proper sentences; no sweaty nervous feeling, and even made a couple witty remarks that made everyone laugh. My only minor flaw was spilling rice all over the dinner table…can't help my clumsiness I suppose. No worries though because I got a "don't worry about it, you're already comfortable and fitting in!" My only real complaint of the day was going kangaroo hunting (just to scope them out) I was told there are everywhere in Singleton and over the last 2 weeks I've been here, I have yet to see a single kangaroo, or koala bear for that matter. So disappointing. All in all, it was a great day spent bonding over budgies, checking out mine work sites, driving on the left side of the road (out for a spin with the Mrs! She let me drive!!), and drinking red wine with good conversation. Saturday - sleeping in and no obligations for the day! Ended up getting our first set of decent pots and pans so I don't have to scrub off burnt crispies at the end of every meal. Also lounged on the couch until friends bombarded us to get up and celebrate a birthday. It was a better night than originally anticipated because I MADE A FRIEND! A couple other girls ended up crashing the party and we exchanged phone numbers! She even invited me for a get together next weekend. Definitely the highlight of my day! Sunday - Nothing like a lazy hungover Sunday. Couple of the guys came over and worked their magic in the kitchen and made me the best bacon and egg roll ever for breakfast. In return I made them watch Blue Crush, Keeping up with the Kardashians, and Fashion Police. Ordered some dinner and after that, to my surprise the bf put on The Little Mermaid! (obviously I got up and reenacted the choreography from tour) Cant complain about this weekend whatsoever. Now need to rest up for tomorrow, I'm taking the RSA course (equivalent to Serving it Right) so I can serve alcohol at my new job! Wish me luck! PS: I will try to take more photos. After all this, I only have two to share. Update: I PASSED! Let the working adventures begin! |
